Terms of Use
Updated October 12, 2026These terms govern the use of Opus: the free software and its paid AI assistant. By installing Opus or buying credits, you accept them. They take away none of the rights your country’s law guarantees you as a consumer.
Who publishes Opus
Opus is published by Opus Desktop, based in Quebec (Canada). Contact: contact@opusdesktop.com. Support: support@opusdesktop.com, or the app’s “Contact us” menu.
The software
Opus is free, for Windows 10 and 11 (x64), for personal and professional use. Installation adds a Windows service (the Opus agent) and the PawnIO driver, which run with the rights needed to read your hardware sensors. Updates install automatically if the option is enabled in the settings.
You may use Opus freely, but not resell, modify or redistribute its files beyond what the licenses of the open-source components it contains allow (Licenses page).
What Opus shows, and what it does not promise
Measurements depend on your hardware sensors and on what Windows and the drivers expose; some are not available on every machine. Opus says so when it could not measure, rather than guess.
The health check, verdicts and tests are indications built from measurements and rules published in the app. They are not a repair technician’s diagnosis: before buying, replacing or returning a part, check.
The tests
The tests (processor stress, memory and disk throughput, SATA drive self-test, line speed) only start when you launch them. They push your hardware to full load for a few seconds to a few minutes. Opus stops them at its safety thresholds and as soon as you cancel, but a maximum load can reveal a weakness that was already there: run them on a well-ventilated machine and, for a laptop, plugged in.
The AI assistant
The assistant is a paid, optional service. Its answers are produced by an AI model (Claude, by Anthropic) from your machine’s data: they may be wrong or incomplete. Check before acting, especially for a BIOS or driver update, a system change or a hardware purchase. They do not replace professional advice.
The assistant reads, it does not act: it changes nothing on your PC, except your machine profile when you give it information. What is sent to it, and what happens to it, is described on the Privacy page.
Credits, packs and subscription
The assistant is paid for in credits. Each message debits its real cost, computed from the model’s work (tokens processed, web searches). Before each message a maximum is reserved, and the unused part comes back at the end; a message that fails on our side debits nothing. A conversation is capped, so that none can drain a balance without you noticing.
Packs: one-time purchase, credits with no expiry date, kept even without a subscription. Opus Pro subscription: 500 credits a month, the unused part carries over up to 1,000 credits; subscription credits are spent first and end when the subscription ends, pack credits remain.
Prices are shown in the app and on the payment page, in US dollars; applicable taxes are computed at payment. Credits have no monetary value: they cannot be exchanged for money or transferred, and they are tied to your account.
Payment, cancellation and refunds
Payments are operated by Stripe; the official seller of the transaction is Link (Stripe), whose terms apply to the payment, receipts and invoices.
The subscription renews every month until you cancel it. You can cancel it at any time from the app (Account & credits › “Manage my subscription”): it ends at the already-paid period end, with no prorated refund.
For a refund request, write to support@opusdesktop.com, or to the Link support shown on your receipt. If your country’s law grants you a right of withdrawal, it applies: write to us within the legal period and unused credits are refunded. A payment that is refunded, or disputed with your bank, removes from the account the credits it added that have not been used.
Your account
The account is tied to your Opus installation, with no password. If you reinstall Opus or change PCs, you can recover it with a code sent to the payment email address; attaching it to a new installation removes it from the old one. One account matches one installation.
Acceptable use
You may not circumvent the service’s limits, automate or overload our servers, try to obtain credits without paying for them, or resell access to the assistant. In case of fraud or abuse, we may suspend the account concerned.
Availability and changes
We do our best to keep the service running, with no guarantee of continuous availability: the assistant also depends on providers (Anthropic, Cloudflare, Stripe). An interruption debits no credits. Opus evolves: features can be added, changed or removed, and the AI models used can change.
Liability
Opus is provided as is. To the extent permitted by law, the publisher is not liable for indirect damage (data loss, business interruption, a hardware purchase decided on the strength of an indication), and its total liability is limited to the amounts you paid in the last twelve months. Nothing in these terms excludes a liability the law forbids excluding, nor your consumer rights.
Changes to these terms
These terms may change; the date at the top of the page shows the latest version. A significant change is announced on this site at least thirty days before it applies to ongoing subscriptions. If you refuse it, you can cancel before that date.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Quebec and Canada, and any dispute falls under the courts of Quebec. If you are a consumer living elsewhere, you keep the protection of your country’s mandatory rules and the right to bring proceedings before its courts.
These terms exist in French and English; in case of discrepancy, the French version prevails.
